How To Treat Renal Edema

How To Treat Renal EdemaDo you know what renal edema is? What is the characteristic of renal edema? And what should you pay attention to?

The pathological process of excess fluid accumulation in the interstitial space or body cavity is called edema. Body swelling caused by renal dysfunction is called renal edema.

The characteristic of renal edema is that swelling occurs in tissue loose spot like eyelids, face and ankles. Swelling is serious in the morning. It can spread your whole body.

Why does renal edema occur?

Renal swelling is the common complication of kidney disease. Renal edema can be caused by two reasons. One is declined glomerular filtration while renal tubular’s reabsorption function to fluid and sodium is still good. In this condition, fluid and sodium will accumulate in your body. Capillary permeability is increased. Then excess fluid will leak into loose tissue space and cause swelling. The other reason is massive proteinuria causes low plasma protein.

How do renal edema patients take diet?

Kidney patients need to limit salt intake. The specific principle is patients with severe edema take sodium 1.7-2.3g per day and patients with not serious edema take 2.3-2.8g sodium.

Besides, renal patients need to follow a low protein diet. What is a low but high quality protein?

If the patient has severe swelling and hypoproteinemia, under the condition of controlling proteinuria, patients need to take 1g protein per day and per kilogram of body weight. If patient has light swelling, 0.5-0.6g protein intake is necessary and at the same time, enough calories should be given.

Different condition will be given different suggestion. You need to consult your doctor before making any change on your diet and treatment. Contact our online doctor or email chinakidneytherapy@gmail.com. You will get prompt reply.
